After the immense success of 2007, for this year the Belgian Moto Tour will be entering into another dimension.
Placed under the official aegis of the FIM (International Motorcycling Federation), this extraordinary rally will be the take-off point for the discipline with stopovers in Portugal and France.
Everybody will be talking about this 2nd edition. Degecom, organiser of the Belgian Moto Tour has sealed a partnership with Dark Dog energy drink, the loyal partner of the French Moto Tour. Dark Dog will be supporting the biggest Belgian rally for the next three years.
Starting on Wednesday 30 April with a special evening show, it looks set to be particularly selective over the following days. The course, which will by then have been extended to around 1200 km, will include a marathon stage and will be spread around a large part of the region.
As an example, some of the towns holding the 2008 event will be Dinant, Bouillon, Marche, Houffalize and Theux. As for the paddock, this will be located in Stavelot, for which the ideal geographical location favours the extension of the track.
It is interesting to point out that all the special sections are completely new and that, as opposed to last year, it will no longer be possible to have a look around them beforehand. However, a few days before the event, the competitors will be able to have a look at the special features of each one on videos. The only special stage still to appear on the programme is the Karting Circuit at Francorchamps. Last year there was a huge crowd, all experts in the end, who loved the spectacular show put on by the competitors. This time, a show on the track will turn up the heat, whilst an announcer will provide a commentary on the exploits of the competitors. Always wanting to provide the spectators with the best service, the organisers will be publishing a full programme showing the routes so that you can go to the various special stages in safety.
Another major innovation is the maximum authorised power for the machines. So as to maximise everyone’s safety, the FIM has decided to limit it to 106 HP. Checks will obviously be carried out throughout the event. For those wanting to take part in this year’s Belgian Moto Tour, it is important to point out that eligibility for registration are unchanged and that you can now fill in the application forms via the BMT’s website: www.belgiandarkdogtour.com.
If you are passionate about bikes, if you love rallying, don’t hesitate anymore!
Let’s meet up on the roads of the Belgian Dark Dog Tour from 30 April to 3 May.
